Camel Bones and Canopy Walks: Adventures in Vancouver with Uncle B

Last weekend I went on a short notice trip to the Lower Mainland. A cultural society asked me if I’d do some facilitation work for them in Chilliwack, and I wanted to, but I had the kids in tow (Jason as doing all his ski patrol certification that weekend, so he was out of the picture.) My creative solution was to fly down Uncle B from Fort St. John, to babysit the girls while I facilitated. That definitely made the weekend a cost neutral exercise, but it was great for the girls and I to spend time with B, who we usually only see once a year. Plus, we had a weekend full of adventure in Vancouver! Thanks to B for joining us and showing the girls and I a great time.

After we picked up Uncle B at the airport, we stopped at the first busy restaurant we saw. I think it was called Won Ton Tasty Seafood... In any case, it was full of Chinese families, so we thought it would be good. Sure enough, it was tasty... On Saturday, while I worked in Chilliwack, Uncle B, Sugar and Spice rode the bus to downtown Vancouver. After the seafood the night before for Sugar, Uncle B picked q place for lunch called Meat and Bread. Spice is a total carnivore, and she loved it! Then off to the Science Centre for the Bodyworks exhibit about animals. As amateur biologists, the girls were in heaven. Totally the highlight of their trip to Van! That night I joined the crew in Vancouver, so we could adventure together for the Sunday. This is trying to get a picture of Sugar smiling with Uncle B. UG. She drives me nuts... Totally won't do posed shots! Our first stop for the day... Gastown! Uncle B is a physicist, so the girls got the steam clock talk in detail. Street art in Gastown Sugar Unbeknownst to the girls, I picked up their Christmas presents. One got a locket from a little sweet boutique, and the other an amulet bag she was eying in the First Nations gallery.... Uncle B wanted to go for multiple lattes... I'm more of a machiato girl myself. The first one at Nelson the Seagull was great... Somehow Spice convinced Uncle B she should have a chocolate croissant for breakfast, and another for lunch. "It's a comparison taste test," he explains to me. Uncles. My bright idea... The copy walk at UBC's botanical gardens. Should I mention that I'm afraid of heights? It was spectacular, though! Such a beautiful view, way up in the cedars and hemlocks. Whenever we got to the coast, we try to take in a little rainforest. Its good for the soul... Rowan Family Tree I almost got B to lick the slug. If he had, he would have had mouth slime for hours. Almost! Supper at Rangoli. We all love Indian food, and Rangoli is a repeat favourite. This time, we had a couple of dud dishes, though. Surprising! The best of the night was the lamb stew. But note, do not try the pizza with lentils. We didn't eat it and still had no pay for it. Boo.
